I think with comedy films it's actually important to have that lighter approach to things. Obviously there has to be a point where they say "right, let's get this scene done", but giving the actors a bit of comedic freedom and a loose leash in terms of messing around creates a funny atmosphere that translates into the final product. And I'm pretty sure there are scenes where the director says to the actor "right, we're gonna film multiple takes of your lines, and just say whatever comes to mind". That definitely happens in Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell films. |

Yeah that's definitely true, a lot of scenes in comedy films are unscripted the actors will just say whatever they want and if it's funny enough it gets left in, it definitely makes movies funnier as it's actors being themselves rather than forced comedy. |
